Optional Add-Ins

The most popular addition is to add a layer of freshly shredded cheddar cheese on top.

There are two other ways you can play with the flavors of this side dish – meat and vegetables.

Meat: Some cooked bacon, browned sausage crumbles, cooked ground beef, or sliced deli ham would all be wonderful in this recipe.

Vegetables: Diced sautéed jalapeños, diced sautéed onion, and canned green chilies would all be delicious additions to this casserole.
